🌟 About the D&H Technique

The D&H Technique was developed by Kala Jarda after being inspired by his wife, Dianne, to create a special, realistic zebra mosaic. The overwhelming response when he posted this on social media led to the creation of this academic course.

This new, unique technique provides the skills to create realistic fine art in glass, including:

  • Furry animals (dogs, cats, foxes, etc.)

  • Forests and complex landscapes

  • Reflections on water

  • Birds and human hair for portraits

The D&H Technique will make a significant difference in your fine art journey, providing you with the methodology to develop and demonstrate a high level of finesse and detail in your work.

  3. Please let us know if you teach mosaics, fused, or stained glass, or have a glass business, as there are special requirements in that case.

🗓️ Program Description & Schedule

The course consists of six weekly zoom sessions, along with instructional videos and feedback videos over a period of 6 weeks. This structured timeline allows ample time for practice between sessions.

Following registration, we will ask you to friend us on Facebook (if you aren’t already) and create an ‘INFO’ Messenger group for all communication, videos, and links.

Preparation Phase

Dates:

Saturday 14 September, 2026 (for US, Canada, Europe), or Sunday 15 September, 2026 (Australia, New Zealand)

Course Preparation Materials Sent: You will receive explanatory PDF documents and a video detailing necessary equipment, materials, tools, choosing a subject, substrate, glue, nippers, and how to glue the image to the substrate.

Self-Paced

Fulfilling Requirements: It is your responsibility to acquire the necessary materials and fulfill these requirements before classes begin.

Weekly Zoom Sessions (6 Weeks)

Our core “Furry Animals” classes take place at 10:00 AM AEST on a Sunday (Melbourne time). For participants in the US, Canada, and Europe, this will be on a Saturday evening.

⏰ Time Check: Please use a world clock or Google: “When it is 10am in Melbourne, what time is it in (your city)”. Zoom meetings usually run for 60-90 minutes.

Zoom Session 1, 

Saturday 19 September, 2026 (for US, Canada, Europe), or Sunday 20 September, 2026 (Australia, New Zealand) 

Introduction & Cutting the Glass 

General presentation of the D&H Technique, how to choose appropriate colours, and how to cut glass into long, straight shards using the D&H Technique.

Cutting Practice (two weeks)

Spend at least 2-3 hours a day practising the cutting technique to build a useful bank of different coloured shards.

Saturday 3 October, 2026 (for US, Canada, Europe), or Sunday 4 October, 2026 (Australia, New Zealand)   

Creating the Eye 

A video and discussion explaining how to create a highly detailed, realistic, and 3D eye effect (colour choice, start point, movement). Q&A session.

Zoom Session 3,

Saturday 10 October, 2026 (for US, Canada, Europe), or Sunday 11, 2026 (Australia, New Zealand)   

Creation of the Muzzle/Nose

Video and discussion on colour choice and application for the muzzle or nose. Feedback on participants’ eye work from the previous week.

Zoom Session 4, 

Saturday 17 October, 2026 (for US, Canada, Europe), or Sunday 18 September, 2026 (Australia, New Zealand) 

Creation of the Animal’s Face

Video and discussion on the use of colours, start points, and movement for the animal’s face. Feedback on participants’ nose/muzzle work.

Zoom Session 5, Saturday 24 October, 2026 (for US, Canada, Europe), or Sunday 25 October, 2026 (Australia, New Zealand)The background of your subject.

The Subject’s Background

Video and discussion on the technique, colours, and movement required to create the background of your subject.

Zoom Session 6, Saturday 31 October, 2026 (for US, Canada, Europe), or Sunday 1 November, 2026 (Australia, New Zealand)The background of your subject.
